At least nine firefighters are dead due to a fire in a South Carolina warehouse. The fire engulfed the Sofa Super Warehouse Monday at around 7 P.M.

When fire fighters arrived on the scene there were still employees in the building. Rescue workers punched a hole in the wall and rescued two employees from the flaming building.

Witnesses claimed that the roof collapsed, throwing debris on many rescue workers, while onlookers were hit with flying ash.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but arson is not a suspect. Apparently the fire began in a storage area. The mayor, Joseph P. Riley, said he was unaware if there were any sprinklers in the building.

This has been the nation's deadliest disaster for firefighters since the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
