On June 18, 2007, a local furniture store in South Carolina caught on fire during business hours. City of Charleston firemen rushed to the scene. Nine (9) firemen entered the burning building in order to insure that no employees were trapped inside. While the employees were able to make their way out of the building, nine (9) of the responding fire fighters were not as fortunate when the blazing building collapsed on the men. All nine (9) men perished in the blaze.

This is the first death of a fireman in Charleston County since 1969. The community has been deeply affected by this tremendous loss and funds have been established to assist the families of the deceased firemen.

When a worker dies in a job-related accident, that worker's family is entitled to death benefits under South Carolina's workers' compensation laws. Joye Law Firm, L.L.P., has contacted the Mayor of Charleston to offer to assist the families of the fireman in procuring the benefits to which they are now entitled free of charge.
