The daughter of an eighty-two (82) year old resident who died at a nursing home has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the nursing home. The resident, who had been residing at the nursing home since 2004, died three days after she fell and fractured her leg and hip at the nursing home.

The daughter's complaint alleges wrongful death and claims that the nursing home's abuse and neglect contributed to her mother's death. Teresa Thorp, of Chicago, the daughter, filed the action claiming that the nursing home failed in providing the care that would have prevented the injuries that caused her mother's death.

The complaint also alleges that there were other incidents involving the resident that appear to have been neglect. While living at the home, the resident also suffered other injuries including an infected sore on her leg, cuts on her face after being attacked by another resident and rib fractures.

The complaint asks for more than $50,000 plus attorney's fees. The attorney handling the case stated, however, that the exact amount of damages has yet to be determined but that he expects it to be in the seven figures.
